The A+Team, a DeLand-based '80s cover band, officially called it quits after a performance at the Athens Theatre last New Year's Eve.
Singer Pierson Rintz and guitarist Brett Walker had moved to Portland and were flying back for occasional gigs, and drummer Daniel Koutouzakis was about to move to Philadelphia. Two founding members, keyboardist Stephen Shanafelt and bassist Rusty Hamil, remained in the area.
And so the daunting travel logistics led the band to call it a day.
However, the A+Team will overcome those geographic barriers this weekend to perform two area reunion gigs.
In conjunction with DeLand High School's homecoming weekend, the A+Team will perform at 10 p.m. today at the Airport Restaurant and Gin Mill, 1120 Flightline Blvd., DeLand.
Advance tickets are $8 and are available until 6 p.m. today at Newfangled Modern Market, 102 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Tickets are $10 at the door.
For more information, call the venue at 386-734-9755.
The A+Team also will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Beachside Tavern, 690 E. Third Ave., New Smyrna Beach. Admission is $7. For more information, call the venue at 386-424-8282.
The A+Team's repertoire includes Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," Prince's "Let's Go Crazy," Ministry's "Stigmata," U2's "With or Without You" and "New Year's Day," Devo's "Whip It," the Psychedelic Furs' "Love My Way," Michael Jackson's "Beat It," Nena's "99 Red Balloons," A Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran," A-Ha's "Take On Me," Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell," Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," Huey Lewis and the News' "Heart and Soul" and more.
