Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne told Paste magazine that the iTunes folks requested some leftover Lips tracks -- but Coyne's band didn't have any.
"Swear to God, I said this as a joke," Coyne told Paste. "I said, 'Well, why don't we just record Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon," and put that out?'" The iTunes people loved the idea.
Not only did the spacey, freaky, fun-loving Lipsters do "Moon" -- they also drafted Henry Rollins to voice the "narrator" bits, plus they got help from Canadian electronica musician Peaches and Coyne's nephew's band, Stardeath and White Dwarfs.
The album, whose full title is "The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon," is available now on iTunes.
