Beatles fans know that John Lennon was inspired to write "Lucy in the Skies with Diamonds" after his then-young son, Julian, drew a picture of his friend Lucy. Yes, Julian depicted his friend in the sky, with diamonds.
That friend, Lucy Vodden, died from lupus in September at the age of 46.
Julian recently hooked up with a musician friend, James Scott Cook, whose 89-year-old grandmother also suffers from lupus.
The musicians' collaboration resulted in the song "Lucy," an upbeat, utterly hummable pop-rock ditty that's something of a comeback for Lennon, who's been absent from the music biz for many years.
Proceeds from the single will benefit the Lupus Foundation. See the video, replete with the adult Julian drawing a crayon portrait of Lucy, at spinner.com.
