In the late 1970s and early '80s, the Little River Band, that Australian pop-rock group, ruled the American charts. The band's string of hits included "Reminiscing," "Help Is on Its Way," "It's a Long Way There," "Lady" and "Lonesome Loser."
These days the band itself, after numerous personnel changes, is ruled by American musicians, including bass player Wayne Nelson. Beginning his LRB career in 1980, Nelson debuted as lead vocalist on the top 10 hits "The Night Owls" and "Take It Easy on Me," and he continues in that role today.
The current incarnation of the band will be in concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave., Deland. Tickets are $47.50 premium seats, $38.50 general admission and are available at the Sands Theater box office, 600 N. Woodland Blvd., and at the door on day of show. For tickets and more information, call the box office at 386-736-7456.
According to the band's Web site, in 1982 the group became the only act to have a top 10 U.S. single for six consecutive years.
