BEST115ACC.jpgCritics have said Steven Brinberg's stage show isn't a drag -- as in drag queen. Never mind that Brinberg has been performing his tribute to Barbra Streisand for more than 15 years.

The New York City native performs his show, "Simply Barbra," Jan. 15 at Flagler Auditorium.

"We're actors," Brinberg told an interviewer, referring to a handful of male colleagues who employ live vocals to portray female movie stars and singers.

"It's unfortunate if someone stays away from my show because they think it will be some silly drag show," Brinberg told journalist Peter Haas in an interview for Cabaret Scenes magazine. "One reviewer I had said, 'Gender, schmender, it's entertainment!' Sian Phillips, the British actress who has played Marlene (Dietrich), called it a 'female interpretation.' Charles Busch called it 'gender illusionist.' I always say, 'I don't care what you call me, just call me.'"

"Simply Barbra" will be staged at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Flagler Auditorium, 5500 E. S.R. 100, Palm Coast. Tickets are $28 and $40 VIP, available at the auditorium box office. The VIP ticket includes preferred seating and an after-show reception with Brinberg at the Hilton Garden Inn, 55 Town Center Blvd., Palm Coast.

Proceeds from the show, which is being presented by the Flagler-Palm Coast Sunrise Rotary Club and the auditorium, will benefit Flagler County homeless students and other students in need.

Brinberg has performed "Simply Barbra" throughout the United States as well as Australia, New Zealand, England, Singapore and Hong Kong.

He has appeared on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," "The Sally Jessy Raphael Show" and "The Jerry Springer Show." He was the voice of David Spade on an episode of MTV's "Celebrity Death Match."
