Harp players can hone their skills at a workshop, then jam onstage with area bluegrass bands.
The workshop isn't for that string instrument preferred by angels -- it's for harps as in slang for harmonica.
Farley Palmer, harmonica player for the band Coyotes and Towndogs, will lead the free workshop at 1 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Beachside Tavern, 690 E. Third Ave., New Smyrna Beach. The workshop is open to both beginner and advanced players. Participants should bring their own harmonicas (preferably one in the key of C).
Palmer will offer tips on holding the harmonica, embouchure, breathing and bending notes.
The workshop will be followed at 2 p.m. Sunday by a Bluegrass Bash featuring music by the Potlikkers, Pickin' Kind and fiddler Charlie Gear.
Workshop participants will be invited to jam on stage with the musicians.
