With apologies to Bono, all will not be quiet on New Year's Day, or the hours leading up to the stroke of midnight on Dec. 31.

While some folks will sit in front of the tube and watch that big ball drop in Times Square, other folks will be looking to par-tay. For those people, area New Year's Eve events include the Art Army's Vagabond Art Party, a band that covers U2's "New Year's Day" and other '80s rock groups, and a singer-guitarist who has backed George Jones and Bo Diddley.

Here's a look.

NEW225ACC.JPGArea artist Perego will be slinging in the new year.

Yes, slinging, not ringing.

The Art Army is a loose collective that includes Perego and other area visual artists, plus deejays, musicians, filmmakers, dancers and other creators. They'll be staging another Vagabond Art Party, one of their occasional events, on New Year's Eve.

And that means Perego, one of the main sparkplugs of the Art Army, literally will be slinging paint as he creates of one of his mural-size works to a soundtrack of rock music.

The Vagabond Art Party's New Year's Eve will be at 9 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Coliseum/Arena Entertainment Complex, 176 N. Beach Street., Daytona Beach. Cover charge starts at 9 p.m. and is $5 for ages 21 and older, $10 ages 18-20 (no one under 18 admitted).

Information from the venue: 386-492-5905.

On the bill: performances by Perego, singer Isabell, break dancer Heps Fury and deejays Divine, Cliff Davis and Psychodelik.

Other activities include an organic light show, a fashion show by C-Lust with DJ Gus Tavo, interactive art and community murals, and body art in the VIP room by Malcolm McGuire, Amanda Russell and Shannon Holt.

Patrons can "wear white and get painted," Perego says.

Also, a free exhibit and artist reception featuring Pierre Matisse will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

The A+Team, an area '80s cover band, will perform during a New Year's Eve party at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave., Deland. Entertainment starts at 9 p.m. General admission tickets are $15. VIP balcony seats are $40 and include hors d' oeuvres, beer and wine.

Tickets are available at the Sands Theater box office, 600 N. Woodland Blvd., and at the door. For tickets and more information, call the box office at 386-736-7456.

The A+Team's repertoire includes Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," Ministry's "Stigmata," U2's "With or Without You" and "New Year's Day," Devo's "Whip It," Michael Jackson's "Beat It," Nena's "99 Red Balloons," A Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran," the Psychedelic Furs' "Love My Way," Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and Huey Lewis and the News' "Heart and Soul."

In the late 1980s, St. Augustine musician Rob Peck played in the backing band of the Possum -- country legend George Jones. Peck, who sings and plays guitar, harmonica, keyboards, Dobro and lap steel guitar, also toured in the band of rock 'n' roll pioneer Bo Diddley.

Rob Peck and Friends will perform during a New Year's Eve Party at 8 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Golden Lion Café, 500 N. A1A, Flagler Beach. There is no cover charge. For more information, call 386-439-3004.

Peck's repertoire includes originals, Jimmy Buffett's "Havana Daydreamin'," Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey," Gregg Allman's "Midnight Rider" and Storyville's "Good Day for the Blues."

The party includes free noise makers, hats, midnight champagne toast and coffee and tea at closing.
