So you haven't gotten your "Nutcracker" on this holiday season? There's still time.
The Academy of Dance Arts, based in DeLand, will stage a shortened version of Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker Suite" at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 and 2 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave., DeLand.
Tickets are $15 adults, $12 children ages 11 and younger. Tickets will be available at the door. Information: 386-785-0004.
The production features 85 area dancers.
The shortened version is designed for all ages who would find it difficult to sit for the duration of the original 2½-hour ballet, said Kim Norman of the Academy of Dance Arts. The production still includes a magical growing Christmas Tree, the dastardly Mouse King, the adventurous Clara and her Prince, Sugar Plum Fairies and other Christmas sweets that come to life and perform.
