The ripples from the new "Star Trek" film are already being felt throughout the halls of Paramount Pictures even though the movie doesn't hit screens until May 8.
The studio has already hired writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, two of the minds behind "Lost" as well as the creators of the Fox hit "Fringe," to write the sequel along with "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof.
J.J. Abrams' will return to produce what will be the 12th film in the franchise.
Speaking of "Lost," Mark Pellegrino, who played Rita's abusive ex on "Dexter," has been cast in a pivotal role according to Entertainment Weekly.
No confirmation on who this pivotal character might be but he will turn up in the season finale and quite possibly in a 1970's flashback. Who is Pellegrino playing? My money is on a young Jacob.

Speaking of casting, we've got a ton of intriguing stuff going on in Hollywood this week.
Harold Ramis has confirmed that all four original Ghostbusters are signed on for "Ghostbusters 3." No filming date has been set and Ramis said in an interview with MTV that he is still waiting on the script which is being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky of "The Office."
It's great to see Kevin Spacey getting back on the silver screen.
Spacey will star in the indie comedy "Father of Invention" where he plays an "inventor-turned-egomaniacal billionaire who loses it all when one of his inventions goes horribly awry. After eight years in federal prison, he returns bankrupt, homeless and determined to rebuild his reputation and fortune."
My only concern is that the film will be directed by Trent Cooper. His last film? "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector."
Fans of my avorite video game of all time, "Bioshock," will be interested by a pair of castings going on for the film adaptation of the best-selling game of 2007.
Joining the cast of director Gore Verbinski's film will be "Prison Break" star Wentworth Miller and Al Pacino.
Yup, I said Al Pacino.
Set in '60s, the story revolves around a plane crash in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The only survivor, Jack, played by Miller, discovers a lighthouse that leads down to Rapture, an underwater city built in the '40s by business magnate Andrew Ryan, played by Pacino. Hoo-ahh!
Director David Cronenberg has confirmed that he's planning a sequel to his 2007 hit "Eastern Promises."
"We [he and Viggo Mortensen] are moving forward with it. We all are excited about the idea of doing a sequel," Cronenberg revealed to MTV News recently.

Wow, you and I usually read the same stuff around the same time, but you definitely just got me with 2 awesome bits of news I didn't know.
Al Pacino as Andrew Ryan in the BioShock movie is awesome, and that's a really good role for him.
And I'm VERY excited to hear about an Eastern Promises sequel. But how do you one-up the naked sauna box cutter fight scene?
