Staff writer Audrey Parente and a co-worker had lunch at Kally K's Restaurant on a Friday afternoon.

Q: What kind of place is Kally K's?

The bright and sprawling dining room might seem familiar to those who used to go here when it was a Denny's, but don't expect any of that fare. Now there's a definite Greek leaning to the menu. It has the feel of a nice diner.

Q: Was there a wait to be seated?

We were seated right away. The tables overlooking Ridgewood Avenue were packed, so we were seated in the back dining room --only two other tables were filled there.

Q: What kind of entrees did you order?

My co-worker chose the creole chicken over rice -- tomatoes, onion and a touch of cayenne with a very large portion of chicken breast. He liked the flavor but found the breast a touch dry. I ordered clam chowder and spinach pie -- both good, but neither piping hot.

I took a long time trying to decide between spinach pie or a stuffed pineapple.

Q: You went back on another day to get the pineapple, didn't you?

I did, and it was excellent, stuffed with shrimp, plus crabmeat salad garnished with tomato and hard-boiled egg. It was just delicious.

Q: Did you order dessert?

We split a piece of coconut custard pie --commercial but yummy.

Q: How was the service?

The service was friendly, but they could have used more staff to handle the crowd that came in for lunch. Even so, the food arrived quickly.

Q: Would you dine there again?

Yes, and I'll order the stuffed pineapple again.

Q: What did you spend?

Spinach pie ($5. 45), Creole Chicken with rice ($5.45), coffee and pie, tax and tip, just over $18.
