IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Karen Clancy
I've been singing forever. I was the kid in the bedroom singing to Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Jim Croce -- all the while my dad banging on the door to "Turn it down!" I'd sing for friends, sit in with any group or musician willing to let me, including Harold Blanchard, Noble Watts and Nathen Page. I was the soloist at my church for years.

I'd have to say my most unusual gig was when I was with U-Ring, a band I started in Marysville, Ohio. My bass player was nervous and he rode for miles (to the gig) on his emergency brake. When he pulled in, the car was smoking like it was on fire. I was just happy to see him.

In the Spotlight: Jimmy Bryer
Like many of the baby boomer musicians, I was inspired by Elvis playing the guitar. I later began to appreciate the artist value and guitar styles of the great legends such as Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and Howard Roberts. Did I mention Barney Kessel, too?
