When you start to get older, buying Christmas gifts for our adult friends can become a real adventure.
In yesterday's Accent section, we broke down the hottest toys on the market for kids. So today, I think it's only fair that we check out some of the killer gifts available this season for us older kids.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and "Brutal Legend"': Yes, I'm a bit of a gamer and these two were by far my favorites of the year. With its gritty realism and no-holds-barred attitude, "Modern Warfare 2" is probably the most intense war game of its kind. As one of my Twitter friends said, the game made me "question my morals." And while "Brutal Legend" is just as, well, brutal, it does so in a much funnier way. Jack Black lends his voice to Eddie Riggs, a roadie who gets transported to a fantasy world to kill demons. Joining Black are rock icons like Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford. Both are available anywhere video games are sold for around $59.99.
Harry Potter Years 1-6 Giftset: While the series will not be complete until 2011's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II," you don't have to wait until then to relive the adventures of our favorite boy wizard. Warner Home Video releases a box set of the first six films on Tuesday. $44.99 at Amazon.com; $92.99 for the Blu-ray version.
"Lost: The Complete Fifth Season Dharma Initiative Orientation Kit": Since the show's premiere back in 2004, the DVD releases have gotten cooler and cooler. This year is now exception. If you already have a Blu-ray player, (and you should) you need to pick up the special edition release of season five. It's expensive Losties, ($89.99 at Amazon.com) but the features make it completely worth it. Available only on this Blu-ray edition is something called "Lost University," a series of lectures taught by cast members on some of the series biggest topics from time travel to jungle survival skills.
Marvel Comics' Digital Comics Unlimited: Have a comic nerd on your Christmas list? You can't go wrong with a subscription to Marvel's online catalog. Just $9.99 a month gets you access to over 5,000 Marvel comics from recent releases like "Invincible Iron Man," to back-issues and online exclusives like "Spectacular Spider-Girl." If you want to go even further, pick up an annual subscription at marvel.com/digitalcomics for $59.98. That's $4.99 a month.
Electroflow Inductive Charger: Yes, it sounds like part of some classified government nuclear device but actually it's just a machine that charges up your Wii controllers. For $29.99 at penguinunited.com, you can get this small piece of equipment to keep those remotes at full capacity for as many hours of drunk Wii bowling as you can handle.
Cinemin Swivel: If you got some money to burn, ($349) check out Wowee.com's Cinemin Swivel. The Cinemin is a handheld projector that you can hook up to just about anything from laptops and game consoles to DVD players and iPods. It can project images up to 60 inches wide on any flat surface and its hinged design allows for ceiling projection. How amazing is technology?
"Star Trek: The Original Series:" Even this Sci-fi classic is getting in on the Blu-ray action. Want to own the complete series and truly go where no man has gone before in crystal clear technology? Now you can on Dec. 15. Amazon's got your best price at $192.99.
Nintendo DS Star Wars Lightsaber Stylus 3 Pack: Having trouble beating some of those tricky Nintendo DS games? Maybe you'll do better with a little bit of the force on your side. For $7.99, Amazon can hook you up with a three pack of the miniature light sabers in three different colors.
