The ratings are in for this season's new TV shows and I must admit there are a few surprises and well, a few not so surprises.
First the good news...
The best new debut goes to CBS for "NCIS: Los Angeles." The "NCIS'ยค" venture into a "CSI"-style spin-off did very well with 18.7 million viewers.
Other shows that did well include ABC's "Modern Family" with 12.7 million viewers, ABC's "Flash Forward" with 12.4 million and Fox's "The Cleveland Show" with 9.4 million viewers, which just about matched the number of viewers for the opener of it's parent show, "Family Guy."
And now some bad news...
Jay Leno and his 10 p.m. talk show might be driving off into the sunset sooner than planned. His NBC show had a stellar beginning with over 18 million viewers in the first week. Second week? Down to 5.7 million. Main reason? It's not funny. Actually, it's terrible.
Former NFLer Michael Strahan's Fox sitcom "Brothers" will soon be getting the sack after premiering to a whopping 2.8 million viewers. The only two shows that did worse? Two CW's "Melrose Place" reboot and Mischa Barton's "The Beautiful Life," which has already been canceled.

Anybody catch the now famous F-bomb drop on last weeks premiere of "Saturday Night Live"?
Poor new castmember Jenny Slate let it slip out during a segment called "Biker Chick Chat." Quite a way to start your new job there, Jenny. No word yet on whether the FCC will come knocking, but never fear, SNL czar Lorne Michaels says Slate's job is safe.
On a side note, it's 2009. Are we really still worried about somebody dropping an F-bomb on TV at 12:30 in the morning? Most people up that late are watching SNL between "Girls Gone Wild" commercials and ads for Mighty Putty. I think they can handle it.
According to TLC, "Jon & Kate Plus 8" will be now known as "Kate Plus 8" when it returns on Nov. 2.
"It's not a huge shift, but it's reflective of where the show was already going,' said Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager who added that Jon will still be on the show from time to time.
People magazine had another reason for the change according to a "source close to Jon Gosselin. "Given Jon's recent antics, there was no way the show could continue to portray him as a doting Dad, not while all this other crap was going on."
According to O'Neill, discussions are also under way with Kate Gosselin for another series that might debut in 2010.
Here's what else is happening this week:
Remember Kanye West's ill-advised stage crash at last month's MTV Video Music Awards? According to MSNBC, the controversial rapper may be headed to rehab for a booze addiction. But some friends of West say no, no no.
Sad news "House" fans: Jennifer Morrison who plays Cameron on the hit Fox series will leave the show sometime this season. However, her on-screen husband played by Jesse Spencer will stay. I think we can figure out how she'll be written out.
Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame has started a little super group side project.
The band consists of Yorke, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Beck/R.E.M. drummer Joey Waronker, percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, and Flea. Yes, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The group will perform live for the first time this weekend in Los Angeles.
And finally, look for a rerelease of "Titanic" in the next year or so. This time in 3D.
I cannot wait to try and reach out and grab that guy who took a header off that propeller in 3D.
Here's a little documentary about propeller guy...
